InformAfricans – Today [Dec. 27] is the 2nd day of Kwanzaa and the principle of the day is ‘Kujichagulia’ in the Swahili language, which means ‘Self Determination’. Kwanzaa is a week-long festival for the purpose of honoring and celebrating Afrikan culture and traditions with family, friends and community.
Kwanzaa is celebrated in the US among African-Americans, from December 26 to January 1st every year.
Self Determination [Kujichagulia] as it pertains to Kwanzaa principles, means to define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves and not the opposite such as being defined and named by the western system, greedy corporations creating for our consumption, and spoken for by others who arguably don’t value our interests.
Fellow Africans, below are some self-determination quotes to live by and/or motivate you:
If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you. Be self-determined!
The difference between the possible and the impossible lies in a person’s determination. Be self-determined!
Don’t let others define you. Don’t let the past confine you. Take charge of your life with confidence and determination for there are no limits on what you can do or become.
In order to achieve success, one must have the determination and the will to succeed.
Global Africans (Blacks), whether you reside in America, Europe, Asia or Africa; today’s self-determination Kwanzaa principle “Kujichagulia” is equally essential to us all. We must control our own destiny and not allow external forces define us, name us, create for us, or speak for us. No one can protect the interest of the global African people as much as we can do for ourselves.
Self-Determination [Kujichagulia] along with consciousness, is the key to defining our own lives and controlling our destiny.
