Uganda on Alert for Attack by Somali Militants

Breaking News:

Ugandan authorities have issued a terror alert, saying Somalia’s al-Shabab militants plan another attack inside the country.

Police chief Kale Kayihura is urging citizens to be extra vigilant, particularly while in hotels and shopping centers or when using public transportation.

Kayihura said security teams are increasing surveillance around the country and along its borders.

Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for a July bombing that killed 76 people in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.

The Islamist militant group said its attack was an act of revenge, because Ugandan troops are part of an African Union peacekeeping force that supports the Somali government.

Al-Shabab is trying to seize power in Somalia and turn the country into an Islamic state.

Until July, al-Shabab not had carried out a major terror attack outside Somalia.
