InformAfrica – Team Angola is scheduled to play team USA in today’s women basketball tournament, June 30th at the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The game begins at 22:15 according to information gathered by InformAfrica.

Team Angola meets USA in women’s Basketball at the London Olympics.

Today is Day 3 of the Summer Olympics Games also known as Games of the XXX Olympiad, and Angola’s women basketball team will be facing that of the United States in their second preliminary round game in Group A – where both team belong. Other teams in Group are China, Croatia, Czech Republic, and Turkey, which makes it a 6 team group.

In Group A, China has the highest point of 4 in 2 basketball games played against Croatia and Czech Republic which they won, while the United States followed behind China with 2 points in 1 game played against Croatia. Ranking 3rd in Group A is Turkey, claiming 2 points from 1 game played against Angola, which they won. Though Croatia lost both games played against China and United States, they managed to bag 2 points in the Group.

Angola and Czech Republic are the only two countries in Group A with 1 points each in the 2012 London Olympics for women’s basketball tournament. However, Czech Republic meets team Turkey in today’s preliminary rounds of women’s basketball in an attempt to claim additional points if they beat the Turkish team.

Angola is the only African nation competing in this year’s women’s Basketball games at the London Olympics.

Every African automatically roots for all African nation competing in this year’s Summer Olympics in London, and in today’s basketball match, Angola is expected to defeat the United States in order to retain to make it through the preliminary rounds of Group A where both team belong. Coach Moreira Anibal is the head coach for team Angola in the women’s basketball tournament at the Olympics, and Pires Elisa serves as the assistant coach respectively. The referee for today’s basketball competition involving Angola and USA is from France, referee Delaune Carole.

The competition format at the London 2012 women’s Basketball competitions begins with a preliminary stage. The 12 teams competing in this year’s tournament is divided into two groups of six and each team will play every other in their group. Teams receive two points for a win, and one for a loss (although they receive no points for losing by forfeiting the game). 

The best four teams from each group during the preliminaries will qualify for the knockout stage, with the winners of the semi-finals going head-to-head in the gold medal game.

In the event of a tie at the end of any game, teams play extra periods of five minutes until the tie is broken. -London2012
