Gmail Message Translation: How It Works (Tech News)
TECH NEWS
Google’s popular email platform, Gmail, can now automatically translate emails from one language to another, this is the current trend in tech news today.
If you receive a message in a language you can’t read (Chinese for example), Gmail can now instantly translate it into a language of your choice in just one click, giving users a general understanding of the message and eliminating the need to use google translate to read your emails.
Helping to lower the language barrier between people of different countries, Google has upgraded Gmail with an automatic message translation.
How Does Gmail Message Translation Work?
When Gmail detects that one of your messages is in a language other than your default language, you’ll see a box at the top of the message. Click the link that says Translate message, and your message will be translated, it’s that simple to use.
To see the original untranslated text, just simply click View the original message.
Also, by default, your messages will be translated into whatever language your Gmail is displayed in. To change the display language, follow the following steps:
- Click the gear icon
in the upper right, then select Settings.
- In the “Language:” section, select a language in the “Display language” drop-down menu.
If you’re multilingual and don’t need to translate messages that are written in a language that you already understand, just click the Turn off for tab in the translation box at the top of the message.
For example, let’s say you’re prompted to translate a French message to English, but you’re also fluent in French. Just click on the Turn off for French link.
If any of your Gmail messages are received in foreign languages, you may want to always automatically translate messages from a particular language by clicking the Always translate: link after you’ve translated the message.
For example, let’s say you received a Japanese email and clicked on the Translate message. You’ll now see a link that says, Always translate: Japanese. Clicking this link will ensure that all future Japanese messages for instance will be automatically translated.
